Location Name: Fern Gully
A former river bed, it is now possible to walk or drive through four miles of meandering rocky gorge up to the central mountain area of the island. Along the road you will find souvenir vendors but that doesn't take away from the lush greenness of the tropical rain forest.
Either side of the roadway is thickly foliaged with ferns (over 500 species) and other kinds of plant life including native variety of orchids.
Only faint rays of the Jamaican sunlight are able to penetrate the thick overgrowth, causing this area to be the coolest part of Ocho Rios.
